Ganesan is a botanist exploring plant diversity and plant-based bioresources in south India and the Northeast. He has spent over 25 years with ATREE, making significant contributions to both his field and the institution. Having recently retired from his position as Senior Fellow, Ganesan will continue to be with ATREE as Adjunct Fellow .
He holds a PhD in Botany from the University of Madras, Chennai, India. His primary research interests include plant taxonomy, systematics of the Lauraceae family in India, and cataloguing plant diversity. He engages in long-term monitoring of biodiversity changes through vegetation monitoring of plots in the Western Ghats. He also focuses on improving livelihoods and enhancing the green cover of urban landscapes. Ganesan is eager to share knowledge about biodiversity and its functional aspects with the public and policymakers, promoting biodiversity conservation.
