Project Manager and Research Assistant

Description

As part of a new research focused on urban resilience, we are seeking two positions, one of a Project Manager to coordinate a multi-stakeholder initiative and one of a Research Assistant, centred on trees in Bengaluru.

The project aims to move beyond traditional tree-counting exercises by developing an evidence-based database that captures the ecological value of the city’s green cover.


Project Manager

The role involves managing a community-led stewardship model to foster local participation in environmental governance and urban conservation.

Position: Project Manager
Start Date: April 2026
Duration: 1 year initially, with a possibility of extension for 2 more years
Location: Bengaluru, with extensive field engagement
Remuneration: Commensurate with qualification and experience

  3. Data & Output Management
  4. Administration, coordination, outreach, and Reporting
Eligibility Criteria
  • Master’s degree in Biodiversity/Conservation, Public Policy, Environmental Science, Social Sciences or allied domains.
  • At least 3 years of experience in overseeing field research projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability in report writing.
  • Proven record of ability to engage communities in participatory research and manage public engagement campaigns, including teaching and leading nature walks.
  • Spoken and written proficiency in Kannada would be a plus.
  • The ability to identify trees and other forms of biodiversity would be a plus.
  • The ability to handle social media communications would be desirable.

 


Research Assistant

The role involves assisting in tree mapping and policy research in Bengaluru.

Position: Research Assistant
Start Date: April 2026
Duration: 1 year initially, with the possibility of a 1-year extension
Location: Bengaluru, with extensive field engagement
Remuneration: Commensurate with qualification and experience

Roles and Responsibilities
  1. Primary field data collection and curation.
  2. Analysis and reporting including GIS analysis and visualisation.
  3. Coordination and conducting workshops.
  4. Write articles in academic and popular science outlets.
Eligibility
  • Master’s degree in any of the fields, including Ecology, Botany, Urban Studies, Environmental Science or allied domains.
  • At least 1 year of field work experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Kannada.
  • Proven ability to work across GIS platforms (QGIS/ArcGIS/GEE).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis (R).
  • Hands-on experience with Mobile Data Collection tools (like iNaturalist, GBIF).
  • Strong skills in biodiversity identification and survey techniques.
  • Valid 2 or 4 wheeler license with experience of riding/driving is desirable.

Duration: The initial appointment is for one year, extendable based on performance and the availability of funds.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
