Kulothungan is a Research Consultant at ATREE with more than three years’ experience (consultant and intern), currently working on the ReAL Project (2025–27) in the Cauvery Delta. Raised in a farm family, he pairs lifelong agricultural practice with a civil engineering background; his final-year project designed ground-level improvements in his native block. His work focuses on community-led water governance, tank rejuvenation, irrigation management, and wetland–livelihood linkages. In collaboration with IHE Delft and Utrecht University, he has coordinated case studies, delivered teaching modules on water management, and engaged citizen-science campaigns on rainfall, salinity, and groundwater, building datasets from 700+ field points. He provides training to college students and NGO teams on how to collect and document data. Current projects include POLKA, Tale of Three Tanks, and CSD: Pathways towards a Sustainable and Inclusive Cauvery Delta. His research also examines irrigation transitions, and he uses QGIS, Google Earth Engine.
