Conservation Action Plan for Hornbills in North Bengal

NCF-India | July 24, 2025

This is to inform you that a Conservation Action Plan for Hornbills in North Bengal has been prepared by the Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF), following a planning workshop held in Siliguri in February 2024. ATREE was one of the participating organisations at the workshop.

The action plan was formally launched during the Bengal Birders’ Meet in Kolkata on July 19th, 2024, in the presence of key dignitaries, including Dr. Asad Rahmani (Eminent Ornithologist & Former Director, BNHS), senior IFS officers, and representatives from WWF-India, Birdwatchers’ Society, and Prakriti Samsad.

The plan outlines key strategies for hornbill conservation across North Bengal. With the plan now in place, the next step is implementation, and there will be opportunities for collaborations and partnerships to take forward the action points.
