About the talk:
The presentation will focus on the case of Panna vis-a-vis gender and women’s rights in the intersections of FRA, conservation policies and extractivism. She will present the violations with regard to FRA, LARR, NTCA guidelines and the WLPA in the Panna Tiger Reserve, and how these have impacted women and children. She will briefly discuss their interventions to address these complex challenges as a women’s rights organisation.
About the speaker:
Dr Bhanumathi Kalluri has been working and living with adivasi communities since 1990 on issues around forest conflicts, land rights, mining, conservation and other natural resource rights concerns. As Executive Director of Dhaatri, which is an organisation working on women and children’s rights in adivasi regions, she coordinates programmes related to women’s leadership in governance, forest rights, intergenerational ecological education programmes with youth and children, land and livelihoods restoration in mining and Protected Areas, occupational health of mine workers, children’s rights in mining areas, and on policies related to adivasi women and children. Dhaatri is based in Hyderabad and currently has field programmes in Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. We also co-coordinate a regional platform on mining issues called, Women in Action on Mining in Asia.
