Resilient Himalayas: A Participatory evidence- based approach to landscape restoration (Re-HIM) Project

Team: Sarala Khaling, Sanjeeb Pradhan, Aditya Pradhan, Sunil Dahal, Tenzing Sherpa, Mahesh Bhujel, Passang Nima Sherpa

Implemented under The Himalaya Initiative’s Mountains to Mangrove programme, the project aims to rehabilitate and conserve 17,000 hectares of land under threat and restore 200 hectares of degraded land in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts in West Bengal and Sikkim.

To date, ATREE has engaged with Yang Makum Gram Panchayat community members to restore degraded land and plant indigenous saplings on sites that fall under agroforestry and forest ecosystems. We established reference plots as benchmarks for restoration success and permanent control plots to compare between restored and undisturbed areas.
