We have implemented this project under The Himalaya Initiative’s AMP-Himalaya (Action for Mountains and Peoples Himalaya, Khangchendzonga Landscape programme), focusing on Sikkim and Darjeeling Himalayas. The project aims to promote community engagement in conservation efforts, assess, monitor and conserve biodiversity, restore multi-functional landscapes and explore nature-based rural livelihoods, thus ensuring sustainability and enhancing climate change resilience among people.

We have identified project villages in Majuwa, Sittong and Yang Makum clusters, and set up a field station at Majuwa to monitor and implement project activities. For place-based education, we have identified rural schools in all the three clusters. Besides, we have identified sites in ten locations across Sikkim and Darjeeling for long-term monitoring of essential biodiversity variables.
