Ranjni ‘s love for the natural word and a deep concern for its wellbeing has been the underlying motivation of her research career in conservation. She had four years of field-based experience in nature conservation as well as four years of teaching experience before she enrolled in the PhD programme at ATREE.

Her background is in Forestry and she won the  Erasmus Mundus Scholarship that helped her to pursue her Masters in Sustainable Forest and Nature Management in Europe. In addition, Ranjani has received the Selective Excellence Research Initiative-2021 grant from SRM University,  and the Earthwatch Citizen Science Fellowship for the year 2022  for her pioneering citizen science initiative called the FireflyWatch.

Ranjni’s motivation to join ATREE’s interdisciplinary graduate studies programme is her firm belief that conservation action can only be sustainable and long lasting if there is a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between human societies and the natural world. She wants to use her PhD research to better inform her future journey as a conservationist.
