Trees Outside Forests in India

PI:

Team:

Trees Outside Forests in India (TOFI) is a USAID-funded five-year project comprising nine partner organisations. TOFI seeks to catalyse a substantial increase in the cover of trees outside of forests by making technical know-how, quality planting material (QPM), financing options and market opportunities available. Through this, TOFI intends to create inclusive economic opportunities and enhance ecosystem services, including carbon sequestration. TOFI will also support several international commitments made by the Government of India, including the pledge to restore 26 million hectares by 2030. ATREE will co-design and coordinate site-specific, robust, problem-driven research in the seven TOFI states – Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Haryana, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. ATREE will work with state partners and innovation platforms to design and deploy appropriate research for tree-based enterprises (TBEs) and social-ecological restoration of public-good leaning areas.
