Migrating grassland raptors: Population change in harriers across space and time

PI:

Harriers are one of the few migratory raptors specialised in utilizing grasslands for roosting, breeding and foraging. Their population has been on the decline but the specific reasons for decline are unknown. The project attempts to establish the migratory route of harriers coming to India using GSM telemetry, understand the ecology of the harriers in the grassland wintering grounds in India that includes a survey of the grasslands, habitat use, foraging area and prey analysis. It also includes a citizen science module of monitoring harriers. More details of the project are available at https://harrierwatch.atree.org/home.
