Field Coordinator in Biodiversity of lake restoration project at Water and Society programme

Description

ATREE seeks a highly motivated Field Coordinator to work on a project focused on the restoration of a peri-urban lake in Bengaluru.. We are adopting an interdisciplinary framework integrating expertise from social and natural sciences to address the degradation of lakes. This collaborative effort aims to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the lake ecosystem, facilitating the development of sustainable interventions to enhance water quality, both surface and groundwater and promote biodiversity and community stewardship.

Appointments and Emoluments: The initial appointment will be for 1 year, with a three-month probation period. Opportunity of renewal subject to satisfactory progress. Salaries at ATREE are competitive and at par with other academic institutions in India. 

Location: ATREE office, Bangalore.

Water and society programme – The programme aims to work towards achieving a water-secure future for society through interdisciplinary knowledge generation and dissemination, policy engagement, capacity building, and partnerships for equitable and sustainable water management and democratic water governance. To advance the knowledge, we adopt an approach of integrated water resources management and acknowledge an intricate interplay between natural and human systems within complex waterscapes. Our strategy integrates diverse knowledge streams, particularly hydrology encompassing surface water-groundwater interactions, political ecology, and science, technology, and society to analyse and address water-related issues by leveraging our expertise in geospatial tools and nature-based solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Procure plants and related materials as per project requirements.
  • Coordinate with nurseries, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Conduct field-based and desk-based research activities.
  • Assist senior researchers in implementing project interventions.
  • Participate in field visits and stakeholder engagement.
  • Analyse data from field studies to assess the effectiveness of restoration efforts and biodiversity health.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to integrate biodiversity research with other aspects of lake restoration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Diploma in Botany, Horticulture or related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in research or field-based roles.
  • Familiarity with plants, nurseries, and ecological projects preferred.
  • Strong research, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and basic data analysis tools.
  • Ability to work in field conditions and travel as required.
  • Team-oriented with strong organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in the Kannada language is a must
