Established in 1996, the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), is a globally recognised non-profit organisation working at the interface of environmental conservation, sustainability, and social justice. ATREE generates rigorous interdisciplinary knowledge that informs policy, practice, and grassroots action.
ATREE has recently constituted the Conviviality Network for Nature, Environment, and Communities Together (CONNECT), an interdisciplinary research–action initiative focused on advancing conceptual, empirical, and practice-oriented understandings of human–wildlife coexistence, with particular attention to underrepresented voices and perspectives. As part of CONNECT, we are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher / Project Manager to coordinate and manage a project titled “Co-developing an evidence-based and context-sensitive framework to assess and monitor human–wildlife coexistence”.
Human–wildlife interactions unfold within diverse ecological, cultural, historical, and political contexts, yet prevailing conservation and policy approaches often narrow coexistence to conflict mitigation or species persistence, obscuring its relational, dynamic, and lived dimensions. The project seeks to co-develop an inter- and transdisciplinary, bottom-up framework to engage more deeply with ideas of coexistence. Working collaboratively with communities and practitioners, the study seeks to integrate empirical evidence, diverse knowledge systems, and lived experiences to produce a context-sensitive decision-support tool that can inform biocultural, rights-based, and grounded conservation practice and policy.
