Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport is expanding towards a capacity of 100 million passengers a year, while Karnataka has already begun planning for a second airport. Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has emerged as a major international cargo hub. Chennai, by contrast, faces growing aviation demand with limited scope for expanding its existing airport. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government, months into office, has announced that it will shelve the proposed Parandur greenfield airport project and identify an alternative site.
