Science Gallery exhibit- Phytopia

Sumita Bhattacharya's project on the use of plants as bioindicators of water quality and ecosystem health for lakes in Bengaluru has been selected to be exhibited between 21 to 30 August 2020. The exhibition is entirely online with an accompanying series of talks, workshops and film screenings. More details on those here.

Dr. Srinivasan appointed to Journal of Hydrology 

Dr. Veena Srinivasan, Director at CSEI, has been appointed as Associate Editor of the prestigious Journal of Hydrology. Journal of Hydrology publishes original research papers and comprehensive reviews in all the subfields of the hydrological sciences. Find the link for the journal website here

Debating Green Strategy

The new article “Environment and wellbeing: A Perspective from the Global South” by Dr. Sharachchandra Lele is the latest installment of News Left Review’s series on "Debating Green Strategy ''. The series was kicked off by an interview with Herman Daly, and was followed by articles on Degrowth, Green Growth and various other approaches.This is the first article in this series written by someone from the Global South. Daily rainfall, stream discharge and hydraulic conductivity dataset

The dataset “Daily rainfall, stream discharge and hydraulic conductivity of soils from catchments dominated by different vegetation types, Western Ghats, India, 2014 - 2016” authored by Bhalla, R.S., Krishnsawamy, J., Chappell, N.A., Kumaran, K., Vaidyanathan, S., Nayak, R., Ghatwai, P was recently published by NERC’s Environmental Information Data Centre (EIDC), hosted by the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. The data were collected as part of a series of eco-hydrology projects that explored the impact of land cover on rain-runoff response, carbon sequestration and nutrient and sediment discharge. The data were collected between May 2014 and December 2016.  Find the dataset here

Plural Valuation of Nature

The EQUIVAL paper “Plural valuation of nature for equity and sustainability: Insights from the Global South” has recently been published in the Global Environmental Change journal on ScienceDirect.  The authors explore what approaches align with plural valuation on the ground, as well as how different social-ecological contexts play a role in translating plural valuation into decisions and outcomes. Find the full paper here

Dr. Lele nominated to the Academic Council at TISS

Dr. Sharachchandra Lele has been nominated as an External Expert to the Academic Council of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences for a 2-year term. The Academic Council of TISS is its highest Academic body, which includes faculty representatives and external experts, and approves all major academic policy decisions.

TISS, as the premier social science teaching institute in the country, has been a source of many researchers and PhD students for ATREE.

13 Perspectives on the Pandemic

De Gruyter has published a free pamphlet “13 Perspectives on the Pandemic - Thinking in a State of Exception”, where humanities scholars from various disciplines come together to reflect on the COVID-19 pandemic from their own area-specific points of view. They ask questioins, look into similar crises from past pandemics and emphasize the importance of memory when dealing with traumatic events. Download the pamphlet here

Transboundary Rivers of South Asia Winter School

Rinan Shah has been selected to attend the Transboundary Rivers of South Asia (TROSA) Winter School 2020 Theme: Inclusive Water Governance organised by South Asian University- Oxfam; UNESCO Chair of International Water Cooperation Uppsala University (Online). The classes are being held online in a series of webinars.

Rinan Shah has been selected as a member of the EauMega 2020 Youth Steering Committee. EauMega is a conference organised by UNSECO, ARCEAU Île-de-France (Association Research Communities in the field of WATER), SIAAP (Interdepartmental Syndicate for Sanitation of the Parisian Agglomeration) and Métropole du Grand Paris (Greater Paris Metropolis).
