Project Associate, Data Integration 
Expected duration: 1 year (renewable)

Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), ranked one of the top environmental think-tanks globally, seeks a Project Associate for its new program on Public Engagement and Outreach, in coordination with the Biodiversity Collaborative (BC) and complementing the National Mission on Biodiversity and Human Well-Being (NMBH). The incumbent will be based in Bengaluru and report to the Project Director of the program.

About NMBH and BC

The National Mission on Biodiversity and Human Well-Being (NMBH) is an initiative of the Government of India’s Office of the Principal Science Advisor (PSA). The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) of the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) is the designated implementing agency.

The Biodiversity Collaborative (BC) is a loose federation of organizations that are affiliated largely through their current joint work on the NMBH with funding from the Office of the PSA.
 

Position Summary:

We are looking to hire a Project Associate (PA) for the new program on Public Engagement and Outreach, ideally a professional with 5 years of experience, with hands-on experience of managing environmental data.  The PA has a demonstrable portfolio of data products in communicating biodiversity and other environmental issues inter alia climate change, disaster management, ecosystem services, agriculture, health, economic policy, and informatics in India. As a self-starter, the PA will drive data integration in the NMBH and related programs with disparate data sources to deliver concrete outcomes, including maps, data charts, infographics, etc. The incumbent will do this in coordination with the project team and by interfacing with subject matter experts of the BC and NMBH, especially with the NMBH component “Nisarg Bharat”, including the CML and other modules, which aggregates data, mainly on spatial, biophysical characteristics.

 

Requirements: 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A master’s degree or higher in spatial data analytics or related areas;
  • Hands-on knowledge of customer centric UI/UX design; understanding of societal platforms a plus.
  • The drive to pay attention to detail in the production of deliverables;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to listen, persuade, learn, act on new approaches with coalitions;
  • Ability to execute goal-oriented strategies to produce timely outputs;
  • Demonstrated ability to write and present information in a clear, concise, and compelling manner;
  • Experience in working with spatial data sets with remote sensing and geographic information systems;
  • Working knowledge of modern tools, such as social network analysis, simulation and data visualization, and societal platforms;
  • Skills to use current tools such as social media, podcasts, infographics, etc.; and
  • Coding and other problem solving skills to facilitate the curation and integration of data sets.
