Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant for Afforestation Project

As a part of a sustainable livelihoods initiative, ATREE and Centre for Social Markets (CSM) have collaborated to distribute fruit tree saplings to the coffee farmers of the Soliga community in the B.R. Hills. Having undertaken an initial cycle of sapling planting, the project is looking to recruit a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Consultant to understand the outputs and the outcomes from the initial phase of the project and to learn how the project could undertake subsequent activities more effectively.  


 Preferably graduate/post-graduate from horticulture/natural science background

  • 2 to 5 years’ experience conducting M&E assignment and primary research. 
  • The person should have related field experience designing and conducting M&E research with rural communities. Experience in delivering end to end M&E projects from design to collection to documentation  analysis and reporting.
  • Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written).
  • Ability to collate information, undertake analysis through synthesis of primary and secondary data also combining quantitative and qualitative data effectively.  
  • Ability to write reports based on diverse data sets programme activities and impact.
Scope of Work

The M&E Consultant will get inputs from the project team but is expected to work independently along with a field team member to undertake the following research and evaluation activities:  

  • Design the M&E study: The key focus of the M&E study would be to understand the factors impacting the sapling planting activity and the survival of the saplings distributed to the Soliga community. The Consultant will design the evaluation looking at a comprehensive set of parameters from the weather pattern to farmer engagement among other factors. The core of the research design will include primary data collection from the farmers and different related stakeholders but will also incorporate other sources of information available on related factors. The M&E Consultant with design all the required questionnaire guides for the quantitative discussion/data collection at household level and the required focus group discussions. 
  • Data collection and data quality monitoring:  The M&E Consultant will be working closely with the field team involved in the data collection to monitoring the quality and type of data collected through primary research.      
  • Data Analysis: The M&E Consultant will analyse the data from the different sources and synthesize key learnings and findings for the project team. The analysis should offer an understanding of the outputs and the current results and also provide learnings and suggestions for future project design and activities. Where required to support the analysis the M&E Consultant will undertake secondary research or draw insights from related research. 
  • Reporting: The M&E Consultant will write a report which would cover the methodology used, the process followed, sources of information analysed, the analysis of the data and the key findings, suggestions and learnings for the project.

Duration: 3-months starting from June 1, 2024
