Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary

Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 11 km south-east of the town of Darjeeling. It was established in 1915, covers an area of 38, and contains the famous tourist view-point of Tiger Hill. The forests of the protected area are both natural and managed, and the fringe region is dotted with villages and tea gardens. There are several villages surrounding the protected area and ATREE has been successfully promoting sustainable livelihood security, eco-tourism and biodiversity conservation in the past in villages like Rampuria and Upper Chattakpur. In the current phase of the project, new villages such as Pokhritaar, Bahukhola, Koilagodam and M1 are being targeted and attempt is being made to replicate the success that was achieved in the other villages, and make them self-dependent.
