Research Interests

  • Taxonomy of flowering plants in general and specifically, plant family Lauraceae.
  • Documenting, monitoring plant species diversity and regeneration dynamics in permanently monitored plots. Specifically interested in the regeneration dynamics of the disturbed forests due to logging, invasive species and NTFP collection.
  • Botanical exploration, to know the status of endemic plants, their habitat and monitoring their population.
  • Creating awareness among the younger generation about the importance of conservation of biodiversity.
  • Documenting rare plants and their habitats through photography .

Experience

Work Experience

  • Fellow ,ATREE, Bangalore. Investigating the impact of invasive weeds on the structure and regeneration of NTFP tree species in Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary, south western India. (1998-)

Research Experience

  • Documenting and monitoring plant species diversity in small scale permanent plots and mid-elevation wet evergreen forest, Agasthyamalai, South Western Ghats, India. Also studied the restoration dynamics of plant species diversity and regeneration in the logged evergreen forest at Kalakad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, South Western Ghats.
  • Made inventories to know about the status of the endemic plant population and their habitat in KMTR. Monitoring the population status of few endemic plants at Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR), south Western Ghats.
  • Vegetation and nutrient cycling in evergreen forest of Kalakad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (Western Ghats). Focused on below-ground ecosystem functioning to study the role of fine roots, soil and their seasonal dynamics besides vegetation.
  • Research on Seagrass Ecosystem along the Coromandel Coast of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, India. This includes studies on Taxonomy, inventorying and assessment of threats to their habitat.
  • Interaction between salinity and heavy metals and their effect on biology of centric euryhaline diatom (phytoplankton) as a part of M.Phil. Degree project work.
