Faculty Position in ATREE’s The Himalayan Initiative

ATREE invites applications for a faculty position (Fellow; Assistant Professor level) – Climate Change in its ‘The Himalayan Initiative (THI)’ working closely with the Centres and Academy of the institution.

Qualifications

Candidates must be dynamic and highly motivated scholars, with a PhD in Environmental Science, Climate Change or relevant interdisciplinary subjects focusing on bio-resources. The applicant is expected to have more than 5 years of post-PhD research with a strong track record of academically rigorous interdisciplinary research relevant to the Himalayan region or other mountain areas. Preferable areas of expertise and experience include climate adaptation relating to bio-resources, climate smart agriculture for resilience building, scenario development on the status of bio-resources under climate change impacts in the Himalayan/mountain regions. Experience of work in the Himalaya/mountain contexts will be a plus point. Proven track record of project/program development, project management and fund raising will be an added advantage.

Applicants must have a strong interest in applied research in developing countries and with Himalaya/mountain contexts, a willingness to work in interdisciplinary teams, and the ability to teach courses and guide students in Sustainability Studies at the Masters and PhD levels. The position has to provide highly specialized scientific expertise and technical skills to develop, interpret and make use of climate change evidence to support climate change policies, adaptation, adaptation decision making and strengthening resilience in multi-functional landscapes and people in the Himalayan region.

Responsibilities

The Fellow is expected to participate in long-term academic, policy and action oriented research programmes that address important issues in the Himalayan region. The Fellow will participate in Masters and PhD teaching, advising and short-term training programmes. The Fellow is expected to share institutional responsibilities and contribute to fund-raising.

Appointments and Emoluments:

Appointments will be at the level of Fellow (Associate Professor) depending upon candidate's experience. The position is long-term-appointment is on 5-year renewable contracts. Salaries at ATREE are competitive and at par with other academic institutions in India. The positions will be based in ATREE’s Regional Office for Eastern Himalaya-Northeast India in Gangtok, Sikkim.
