I am looking at Wildlife corridors in Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple (BRT) Wildlife Sanctuary part of Mysore-Nilgiri Corridor which links BRT with Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and now the linkage is severed due to forest fragmentation leading to wildlife-human conflicts. Though few corridors have been identified physically, efforts have not been made to improve the habitat quality which is critical in wildlife management. So, my research will focus on identifying the issues from ecological, economic and sociological perceptions of the wildlife corridors landscape.
The study will provide strategies to improve the status of wildlife corridors and forest fragments along with the inputs from the farming and forest dependent communities will help forest fringe communities to reduce the human wildlife conflict and improving livelihoods and also legal wrangles with the forest department. Similarly Forest Department can make use of the project document to consolidate the fragmented forest landscape and manage the wildlife more effectively.
