- Pursuing Ph. D. (Forestry), from FRI Deemed University. Research topic on Forest cover dynamics in Northeast India and its impact on soil erosion processes.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Application of Remote Sensing and GIS to Forestry and Ecology from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun, 2002.
- M.Sc. Botany (specialization in Plant Ecology) from Dept of Botany, University of Pune, 2001.
- B.Sc. in Botany from Fergusson College (University of Pune) 1999.
Technical Skills
- Image processing and GIS packages including ArcGIS 8.3/9, ERDAS IMAGINE 8.7, ArcView 3.3, ArcPad (GPS handling) ILWIS 3 and IDRISI.
- Classification techniques using digital as well as visual interpretation of the temporal and multi-resolution satellite datasets and carried out spatial predictive modeling.
- Carried out geospatial analysis for estimating entropy, landscape matrices and land cover dynamics.
- Experience in handling large spatial and non-spatial database. Data integration, multi criteria analysis and geostatistical tools.
- Familiarity with freeware and customized packages viz., FRAGSTATS, BIO_CAP, Biomapper, GRASS (involved in developing the GUI for GRASS as a part of an assignment) etc.
- Extensive and intensive field work in remote and tough terrains. Traveled to interior places in various parts of the country for various assignments, particularly in the Northeastern states, Central India (M.P, Jharkhand) and Garhwal HImalayas.
Research Interests
Understanding and modeling land use land cover changes, deriving methods for understanding forest cover dynamics, species niche modeling, landscape ecology and applications of GIS to fields of conservation and ecology.
