Research

The research under this program has included:

  • New ways of classifying vegetation and habitat using remotely sensed data especially multi-date NDVI, and developing:
    • An eco-climatic distance measure that quantifies eco-climate and vegetation variability in a single continuously varying scale and has led to an index of beta diversity besides enabling analyses of corridors for different species
    • An index of landscape heterogeneity based on remote sensing that has three components of variability at 1 sq km resolution: ecosystem, seasonality and edge.

  • Using species niche modeling techniques to predict and map potential habitat of threatened, endemic species and potential invasive species.

Predicting Indian Fox Distribution Using Ecological Niche Modeling

  • Model Land Use/Cover Change (LUCC) to understand drivers of change and also to project future scenarios to influence policy issues in a proactive manner.
