Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), ranked one of the top environmental think-tanks globally, seeks a Project Associate for its new program on Public Engagement and Outreach, in coordination with the Biodiversity Collaborative (BC) and complementing the National Mission on Biodiversity and Human Well-Being (NMBH). The incumbent will be based in Bengaluru and report to the Project Director of the program.


About NMBH and BC

The National Mission on Biodiversity and Human Well-Being (NMBH) is an initiative of the Government of India’s Office of the Principal Science Advisor (PSA). The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) of the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) is the designated implementing agency.

The Biodiversity Collaborative (BC) is a loose federation of organizations that are affiliated largely through their current joint work on the NMBH with funding from the Office of the PSA.


Position Summary:

We are looking to hire a Project Associate (PA) for the new program on Public Engagement and Outreach, ideally a professional with 5 years of experience, with hands-on knowledge of environmental communications.  The PA has a demonstrable portfolio of products in developing collaborations on environmental issues inter alia climate change, disaster management, ecosystem services, agriculture, health, economic policy, and informatics in India. As a self-starter, the PA will drive outreach in the NMBH and related programs to deliver concrete outcomes, including model partnerships, position papers, business models, etc. The incumbent will do this in coordination with the project team and by interfacing with subject matter experts of the BC and NMBH. Outcomes will include:

  • Model partnership agreements between community based institutions and other stakeholders, including the public and private sectors, to facilitate the implementation of the NMBH.
  • Road tested business models for livelihood improvement and employment generation of communities based on the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.
  • Policy advocacy efforts targeted toward the improvement of policy outcomes for individuals and institutions in support of the NMBH.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • A master’s degree or higher in management, public relations, or related areas;
  • The drive to pay attention to detail in the production of deliverables;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to listen, persuade, learn, act on new approaches with coalitions;
  • Ability to coordinate convenings for the execution of goal-oriented strategies to produce timely outputs;
  • Demonstrated ability to write and present information in a clear, concise, and compelling manner;
  • Skills to use current tools such as social media, podcasts, infographics, etc.; and
  • Organizational skills to design and implement advocacy campaigns, collaborative partnership meetings, award functions, small grants program promotion, both online and in person.
