Dear Participants, Enclosed please find some practical information about the forthcoming Ecological Niche Modeling Workshop that GBIF is jointly organizing with ATREE in Bangalore. How to get to your Hotel: The hotel will take care of picking and dropping the participants from and to the airport. Participants have to provide their flight Departure/arrival timings to the organisers in advance, so that their airport pickup and drop services can be taken care of.

According to the GBIF traveling regulations, the participants will be covered for a maximum of 6 nights of hotel accommodation. Please take note that breakfast, lunch (dinner not included), taxes and tips are already included in your reservation.

However, any extras (phone calls, drinks, beverages & food items, laundry, local travel, taxi service (non-official) ...etc.) should be directly settled by the participants.

To confirm your hotel accommodation please inform Shiva Subramanya as soon as possible of your arrival and departure dates to/from Bangalore . Send a message to shiv@atree.org.

3. TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS:

GBIF participants will have their airfare tickets expenses, visa fees (if any) and per diem covered to attend this meeting in accordance to GBIF rules (for further information on the rules to attend GBIF-sponsored meetings please see http://www.gbif.org/Support/travel . Participants are requested to contact Shiva Subramanya (shiv@atree.org) or Dr.Mohammad Irfan-Ullah (irfan@atree.org) as soon as possible to arrange for airline reservations (most direct, economy fare).

4. ENTRY VISA / CUSTOMS

For information on how to obtain Indian Visa, documents required, and for the addresses of the Indian Embassies and Consulates in different countries, please visit the following URL: http://www.visatoindia.com/index.html

Also the participants / faculty are urged to send the following information to ATREE, so that ATREE will arrange for Invitation letters to all the participants, which can be used to obtain Indian Visas by the participants themselves from the Indian Embassy of their respective countries:

  • Passport Number (Passport should be valid for more than 6 months from the date of travel)

5. WEATHER:

6. WATER:

Water is potable in the hotel but it is advisable to use bottled water.

7. CREDIT CARDS:

Major credit cards are accepted in most hotels and restaurants in Bangalore (Visa, Master Card, American Express).

8. OFFICIAL LANGUAGE AND CURRENCY:

Please take note that the workshop will be conducted in English.

The official language in Bangalore is Kannada, but English is understood and spoken in most hotels and restaurants. The currency in India is the Rupee (Rs.). The current exchange rate against the US dollar stands at approximately Rs.46 per dollar.
