The dynamics of land use changes in the peripheries of dry forests of Western ghats was evaluated to highlight the need for land-use regulation in the forest peripheries. The project had the following objectives:

  • To identify the economic and socially acceptable land-use strategies for a degraded dry deciduous forest tract near Coimbatore.
  • To understand sustainable interactions between land-use practices, property rights, development policies and livelihood patterns.
  • To conduct detailed economic analysis of these land use options.
