Biodiversity Asia: Behind the scenes

Dr Simon Nemtzov, President, SCB-Asia Chapter, invited ATREE to organize the Asia conference when he visited India in 2010. The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) is an international organization dedicated to promoting the scientific study of the phenomena that affect the maintenance, loss, and restoration of biological diversity. The last Asia chapter of the SCB was held in Nepal in 2005. The present conference was seen as a valuable precursor to talks at the Conference of Parties, taking place in October in Hyderabad.

The icon of a Slender Loris clinging to the arm of Asia symbolizes the uniqueness of life in Asia. This species of conservation importance also provides a local flavor, as the Slender Loris can be found in Bangalore city, including in the Biodiversity Asia conference venue—the IISc campus!
