Ashwini comes to ATREE with over 25 years of experience in the IT industry, including General Management, Business Development, and Marketing, in Europe, Africa, Middle-East, India, and South East Asia. He has spent 10 years studying, living, and working in different countries of Europe.
Ashwini has most recently held senior management responsibility in marketing healthcare informatics product solutions - for over 7 years - including through Public Private Partnership consortiums for integrated Provincial and National deployments. As Executive Vice President and Director on the Board of the company, his responsibilities included interacting with senior officers of national ministries of health, dealing with healthcare intellectuals, visionaries, and opinion-makers, setting up global strategic alliances, membership of various healthcare related task forces of the Confederation of Indian Industries and NASSCOM, as also participation in international healthcare conferences and trade delegations.
At the start of his corporate career in the early 1980s, Ashwini was at the forefront of India's pioneering efforts to penetrate and achieve leadership in the global IT services markets, through the Tata Group. At the peak of his corporate career before moving to the "Not for Profit" sector, he was working at the highest end of the IT solutions chain, offering a sophisticated Hospital Information System Product Solution bundled with System Integration services around it, through MEDICOM.
Ashwini has worked for the following companies :
- Standard Telecommunications Laboratories, UK, the global research arm of the erstwhile International Telephone and Telegraph company, in the semi-conductor laser research group.
- Ballarpur Industries Ltd., in the Information Technology department.
- Tata Infotech Ltd. - previously called Tata Unisys and Tata Burroughs - now merged with Tata Consultancy Services, in various roles.
- Metamor Global Solutions Ltd., since then acquired and merged with Keane of USA, in a Business Development role.
- MEDICOM Solutions (P) Ltd., since then acquired and merged with IBA Health of Australia, in a Business Development and General Management role.
Significant corporate achievements for Ashwini have been :
- Finalized an alliance for MEDICOM in Malaysia, and an order for 13 hospitals. (Order value USD 180 million). This was in competition with 64 solutions from across the world.
- Closed an order for Africa's first "paperless and film-less" hospital against global competition, in a "Public Private Partnership" consortium. (It was a 15 years contract, with an Information Technology component of USD 116 million).
- Established significant relationships for MEDICOM with various global technology vendors.
- Closed first deal (USD 250,000) for Metamor in France, within 3 months of joining the company.
- As Regional Manager of Tata Unisys for continental Europe - based in Zurich - for business development in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Italy, achieved a "turn around" within 2 years of taking responsibility to clock the highest ever revenues following several previous years of consistent decline.
Educational Profile :
2007 - : Studying by correspondence for Master of Business Law from the National Law School, Bangalore.
1978 to 1982 : B.Sc. (Hons.) in Electronic Eng. & Physics, from Loughborough Univ. of Technology, England. Also awarded Diploma in Industrial Studies.
1975 to 1978 : B.Sc. in Science, from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. Stood first in College, and awarded the Mukharjee Memorial Prize for 'regularity at work, industry, and perseverance.'
1969 to 1974 : Indian School Certificate, from Mayo College, Ajmer.
Personal Profile :
Ashwini is an Indian national, born on 25th May 1958. He is fluent in English and Hindi, and has a "beginner's level" proficiency in German and Italian. He enjoys traveling, theatre, music, reading, and sports.
Ashwini has always been a keen sports person. He has sustained his interest in equestrian excellence from the age of 7, and is even today passionate and regular about his horse riding. At his University in England, Ashwini captained the chess team. He holds his school colors for boxing, and has at various times been an active player of tennis, squash, football, hockey, gymnastics, and swimming.
Coming from a family of academics - and living in Dehra Dun during his formative childhood years - Ashwini has had a personal association from very early in both the appreciation of the environment and in the giving of charity. His current interests are the Environment, Education, and Poverty alleviation, all of which he hopes to combine in his involvement with ATREE.
Ashwini's wife - Renu - shares his interest in the environment and sustainable development. They are making their home at the remarkable Navadarshanam, near Bangalore. They do not have children.
