Credits and Grading System
Credit requirements
The candidate must successfully complete a total of at least 18 credits in coursework within 18 months of admission to ATREE in order to qualify for the comprehensive examination. The total time burden for each credit varies with the type of activity in the course. For typical lectures, one credit would correspond to one lecture per week over a 12-week period.
Of the required 18 credits, students should complete 12 credits by taking 4 compulsory core courses offered from June to September every year. The remaining 6 credits should be completed by taking two or more elective courses, which will be offered, in two slots - from January through March, and from September through December each year. Students are encouraged to discuss their choice of elective courses with their supervisor and doctoral committee.
Grading system
Instructors will typically evaluate student performance using the following format:
Assignments, quizzes, readings= 50 marks
Participation (attendance + questions + comments) = 10 marks
One written test at the end of the course or a Take-home test = 40 marks
Grades and grade point scores will be assigned based on the following format:

Cumulative Grade Point Average,
Performance requirements by students in the coursework
Students are expected to obtain at least C+ in each course.
If a student scores below C+ in any course, he/she will have to take a repeat exam within six weeks. Any student who scores below C+ in more than two courses will have to appear before the Academic Council, which will decide whether he/she is eligible to continue in the PhD programme.
